Attracting more than 300 of the world's top journalists in computer-assisted and investigative reporting, the annual CAR conference also provides a great recruiting opportunity for major conference sponsors.
The 2010 CAR Conference, March 11-14 in Phoenix, will offer story ideas plus guidance on the techniques and resources needed to carry out those ideas. Our host is The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
Sessions will cover using technology for reporting on a wide range of topics, including the U.S. Census, crime and courts, immigration and other border issues, education, local and state government, and urban infrastructure. In addition, we will offer dozens of hands-on classes — taught by the best in the business — for every skill level.
Each year we depend deeply on the generosity and support of media organizations, foundations and corporations to conduct our conferences. Support from our sponsors helps us keep our registration fees low. We ask only $195 in early-bird registration fees for IRE members to ensure that our attendance remains robust when training and travel budgets are lean.
IRE is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational and professional organization of nearly 3,500 journalists working to foster excellence in journalism. Founded in 1975, IRE provides extensive training and resources through seminars, publications and a thriving Web site: www.ire.org. IRE also runs the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting (NICAR), a joint program of IRE and the Missouri School of Journalism. IRE has its offices at the University of Missouri.
